Open Source Policy

Adder has been developing and manufacturing advanced connectivity solutions since 1984. In the early years all the firmware we developed was proprietary. Over the years, the functionality and development complexity required to offer the best solutions to our users in the minimum time frame has naturally led to various general purpose software like operating system kernels, interface modules and speciality functions being licensed in from others for a number of our products. Whilst much of our software remains proprietary, some is licensed in from other developers for a license fee and some is licensed in from the Open Source Software community under the terms of the related open source licenses.

Adder understands that there can be both technical and business benefits to be derived from engaging with the Open Source Software community. Adder makes the Open Source Software and any modifications it has made available in accordance with the terms of the related open source licences on an “as is” basis for informational purposes only with no support and/or warranty of any kind. We only release source code for software we develop when that is required for compliance with the terms of the open source licence(s).

Interested parties can request a CD containing open source software source code files by sending a cheque made payable to Adder Technology Limited for GBP £30 drawn on a UK bank to the address below. The nominal charge is to cover Adder’s costs for media, duplication, postage and VAT. The request needs to state the Adder product for which the open source element of the source code is desired together with the full name and postal address to which the CD should be sent and contact telephone and email address in case there are any queries. We will normally aim to process requests within 8 weeks of receipt.
